DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating two deadly hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians.

Timothy Wright, 35, of Durham, died after he was injured in a crash on North Miami Boulevard on Saturday night. Another pedestrian was killed in a crash that occurred early Sunday morning on North Roxboro Street.

Investigators are seeking information in connection with both crashes.

North Miami Boulevard crash: Driver flees the scene before crashing again on Holloway Street

Around 9:06 p.m. on Saturday, Wright was crossing North Miami Blvd. near Raynor Street when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.

The vehicle then struck a pole before backing up and fleeing the scene.

Wright was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

Shortly after this crash, it is believed the same suspect vehicle was involved in another crash on Holloway Street near Herbert Street. The suspect in the crash got out of the vehicle briefly before fleeing the scene.

Police are searching for a dark blue SUV that is likely a Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar vehicle registered in North Carolina. The vehicle should have extensive damage, particularly to the front right corner, the hood area, the back of the vehicle, and several parts may be missing including a bumper.

North Roxboro Street crash: Man potentially hit by two separate vehicles

Around 5:03 a.m. on Sunday, a man was struck in the 2400 block of North Roxboro Street by an unknown vehicle that was traveling northbound.

The driver fled the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

A witness told officers a light gray or light blue Chevy Sonic or similar vehicle may have run over the pedestrian.

It is also possible the pedestrian was struck by another vehicle first. That vehicle of interest is believed to be a 2014-2016 Lexus or Toyota sport sedan or similar vehicle that likely has driver side headlamp damage and is missing a black front bumper hole plug.

Both crashes are under investigation. Anyone with any information about either of these crashes is asked to call Investigator G. Munter at 919-560-4935 extension 29448.
